Football fever is sweeping through Hong Kong once again! Another highly anticipated clash is set to ignite the city. “RED on RED: Gerrard 11 vs Rio 11” will be staged on October 18 at Kai Tak Stadium of Kai Tak Sports Park, bringing together iconic English footballers Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand to lead their teams in a nostalgic showdown that promises to thrill local fans and celebrate the spirit of the game. This match will spark the passion and collective memories of some of the most thrilling battles in modern football history, continuing the vibrant football celebrations of 2025 in Hong Kong.
Presented by Pulse, this legends’ edition of the iconic “RED vs. RED” derby will see Gerrard and Ferdinand lead two squads of football greats, showcasing dazzling skills and reigniting unforgettable moments for Hong Kong fans.
Leading the Liverpool Legends, the 45-year-old “Captain Fantastic” Gerrard will reunite with teammates from the famous Miracle of Istanbul in 2005, where he inspired Liverpool’s dramatic comeback against AC Milan to win the UEFA Champions League. With more than 500 appearances for the club, Gerrard’s midfield dominance and leadership defined an era. He last visited Hong Kong in 2007 during the Premier League Asia Trophy, making this his first return since retirement.
The Manchester United Legends will be commanded by 46-year-old Ferdinand, one of the most complete defenders of his generation. Renowned for his technical ability and composure, Ferdinand won six Premier League titles and the 2008 UEFA Champions League with United. Alongside Gerrard, he represented England internationally for many years, with both men having captained the national team.
